Members can create text and/or html backup copy of a Homestead Guestbook Entries:

Note: These backups will not allow you to restore a lost Homestead guestbook or guestbook entries, it is only for personal records.

To create a HTML or text backup:

1. Go to the Homestead page with the guestbook

2. Click on the "View Entries" link on the guestbook.

3. On the browser, along the file menu along the top, click on File and then select Save As.

4. A new window will appear and you can save as:

• Web Page, complete (this will create a HTML file and an image folder to allow the page to appear correctly)
• Web Page, HTML only (this will create only a HTML file, any images on the page will appear as broken images)
• Text File (only text will appear)

Note: Netscape may only allow you to save a HTML only version of the page (no images).

5. Save the file to your computer.

6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for other Guestbook pages. (Guestbooks with more than 50 entries)

Alternative method to create a text backup:

1. Go to the Homestead page with the guestbook

2. Click on the "View Entries" link on the guestbook.

3. Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key and then press the "A" key to select all the text, or right-click on the page and select "Select All" in the menu.

4. Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key and then press the "C" key to copy the text.

5. Open a word processing application (e.g. NotePad, WordPad, Microsoft Word)

6. Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key and then press the "V" key to paste the text.

7. Repeat steps 3-6 for other guestbook pages.

8. Save text file.

Note:

• Interactive elements such as the Hit Counter and Guest Book cannot:
  • be deleted and replaced
  • copied as an element to other pages
  • rename the page with the interactive element
  
  If this occurs, a new, empty interactive element is created on the page.

• Please bookmark (Ctrl+D) the page with the guestbook entries on it. If any problems occur, the bookmark and URL will help to locate the entries and guestbook in Homestead database.
