How can I password protect my web site?
There are many ways to password protect a Homestead web page with varying levels of security. A secure and easy method is to use the Homestead Password Protection feature, to learn how, click here.
However this type of password protection does not allow you to have:
- multiple passwords
- username and password combination
- password protect a whole section of a web site
- statistics on accessing password protected web pages
There a free ways to accomplish, one or all of the above features, using the following:
- javascripts
- java applets
- remotely hosted cgi scripts
Most of these methods will require either one or both of the following:
- adding html to your web page using the "Insert HTML" element
- uploading a text (.txt) or java class (.class) file to your account
There are many free password protection javascripts and java applets. Here are the characteristics of javascript and java applet password protection:

- requires adding HTML to your web page and/or uploading files
- protects one Homestead page and/or multiple imported HTML pages
- not 100% secure

These services will provide you with HTML code that can be added to a Homestead web page with the "Insert HTML" element.
To copy and paste HTML code:
1. Use the mouse to select the HTML by holding down the mouse button and dragging the mouse over all the HTML.
2. Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key and then press the "C" key to copy, or right-click with the mouse and select "Copy" in the menu.
3. Go to the Insert HTML Element, "Edit Html" box, and click once in the box so you can see the cursor blinking inside the box.
4. Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key and then press the "V" key to paste, or right-click with the mouse and select "Paste" in the menu.
