FTP is a process to easily upload copies of multiple files from your computer to another (e.g. your account on Homestead servers) via the Internet.
- Note: To do this, you must have a FTP Client program. You can download a free FTP Client program from www.download.com, click here to choose one.
The instructions and screenshots below use the "WS_FTP LE" FTP Client Program (click here for free download), and other program interfaces will differ slightly, but work using the same ideas.
1. Start your FTP Program

2. A window will appear asking you to input the FTP settings, if a window does not appear, click on the "Connect" button on the bottom left.

- Tip: If there are already settings in the window, click on "New" to create a new "profile"
Homestead FTP Settings are
- FTP Server Name: ftp.homestead.com
- UserID: Your Homestead username
- Password: Your Homestead password

Tip: Choose a profile name and when you click "OK", you can use the dropdown menu to easily locate your Homestead FTP settings or "profile".
3. After you click "OK", your FTP program will connect to your account on the Homestead servers. The window will show two areas. The area outlined in red is your computer and its folders, and the area outlined in blue is your account at Homestead.

Note: On the right side of each area, there are a series of buttons, here is what each does:

- ChgDir - Allows you to go directly to another folder by typing in its location
- MkDir-Creates a new folder
- View - Allows you view the selected file (does not work on the Homestead side)
- Exec - Allows you to open the selected file (does not work on the Homestead side)
- Rename - rename a selected file (does not work on the Homestead side)
- Delete - Deletes selected files
- Refresh -Loads the folder's latest file listing.
- DirInfo - creates a text file of the list of files in a folder.
- "<--" - moves files from a remote server (e.g. Homestead) to your computer (you cannot download files from Homestead servers using FTP)
- "-->" - moves files from a computer to a remote server (e.g. Homestead).
4. You must select the files to upload. Click on the "green" arrow in the upper left of the window to move up a folder directory. To open a folder, simply double-click on the folder.

5. You must select a destination folder. On the Homestead side, double-click on the folder with the desired web site name, and click on the "files" folder. Files
cannot be uploaded to the root directory (or outside of the "files" folder).

6. Once you are in the desired folders, you can organize files by "Name", "Date", and "Size". You can also easily create new folders by clicking the "MkDir" button.
- Tip: This is a good way to see file sizes and which ones are taking up too much space.
7. To select files, use your mouse, and hold down the Ctrl key if you want to select multiple files. When you are ready, click on the "-->" button that points to the Homestead side.
- Tip: To select a large group of files, click on the first file and then click on the last while holding down the Shift key.
- Note: You cannot upload a folder and its contents to Homestead in one step. You must open the folder and upload the files.

8. Copies of the file will be uploaded to the selected folder in your Homestead account on the Homestead servers.

9. When you are done uploading files to your Homestead account. click on the "Close" button at the bottom left.

10. If you want to upload more files later, click on the "Connect" button at the bottom left. If you want to close the program, click on the "Exit" at the bottom right. There is also a "Help" button with more information about the program.

Final Note:
- If you are using another FTP program, the ideas are the same, you will need to
- enter in your FTP Settings
- connect to Homestead
- select the files to upload
- select a destination folder.
- If you do not see the files in your Files Manager, click the File Manager's "Refresh" button
- If you have questions about FTP, a very helpful site is FTPPlanet.com, to go there click here.
